JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – Africa’s leading digital rights collection management society CAPASSO (Composers, Authors and Publishers Association) has welcomed new leadership to lead the board.

CAPASSO congratulates Meladi Mampane as the board Independent Chairperson and Brenda Mtambo as the Deputy Chairperson on their respective appointments who will be steering the ship and continue to lead CAPASSO to great heights.

The appointments also mark a significant milestone in CAPASSO’s history. Mampane becomes the first woman to serve as Chairperson of the CAPASSO Board since the organisation’s inception. Her appointment, alongside Brenda Mtambo as Deputy Chairperson, also represents the first time the organisation’s Board leadership is held by two women, reflecting CAPASSO’s continued commitment to inclusive leadership and representation within the music rights sector.

Meladi is the successor to our previous board Chairperson, Mr Leslie Sedibe and Brenda takes over the reign from our former board Deputy Chair, Dr Yvonne Chaka Chaka. Both Sedibe and Chaka Chaka’s tenures were completed after serving for 6 years on the CAPASSO board.

Meladi Mampane who is the co-founder of Maletchaba Human Capital joined the CAPASSO board in 2021 as the Independent Chairperson of our board Remuneration Committee (REMCOM) where her understanding of strategic leadership shaped the CAPASSO board and operations.

Mampane who is an expert in Human Resources has over 25 year’s experience in the work force including being nominated as the NYDA Entrepreneur Of The Year. Her specialities span from transformation management consulting, marketing and corporate governance and strategic empowerment execution just to mention a few.

Speaking about her appointment, Meladi Mampane said: “It is a privilege to step into the role of Independent Chairperson at CAPASSO. The creative sector depends on strong governance and ethical leadership to protect and empower composers,
authors and publishers. My focus will be on ensuring that the organisation continues to operate with integrity, clarity of purpose and a commitment to delivering meaningful value to its members.”

Multi-award winning singer, songwriter and entrepreneur Brenda Mtambo joined the CAPASSO board in 2024 as a Composer Member where she sits on various committees and also serves as the current chairperson of the CAPASSO Remuneration Committee.
Mtambo who is an advocate for empowering women through music and mental wellness runs her own company, BUSA Music. Brenda whose voice and understanding of the music business makes her a force to be reckoned with as she also sits on other boards.

Brenda Mtambo said: “Serving as Deputy Chairperson of CAPASSO is both an honour and a responsibility I carry with deep respect. As a composer, I understand firsthand the importance of protecting intellectual property and building systems that genuinely serve creators. I am committed to ethical leadership, inclusive representation and ensuring that CAPASSO continues to evolve in ways that secure long term value for composers and publishers alike.”

CAPASSO CEO, Jotam Matariro who was excited about the appointments of Meladi and Brenda added that he was delighted to welcome Meladi as the new Independent Chairperson of the CAPASSO Board as he had witnessed her exceptional leadership and integrity firsthand over the past five years.

Jotam added that it was also his privilege to welcome Brenda Mtambo as the new Deputy Chairperson, “Having served alongside her on the Board for the past year, I have been deeply impressed by the unique perspective she brings as one of the few active singer-songwriters to transition into the boardroom. Her firsthand experience as a creator, combined with her dedication to the technicalities of managing music rights, provides the Board with an essential bridge between industry policy and the artist community, making Brenda’s transition into this leadership role a win for both governance and the creators we represent.”

When CAPASSO was formed ten years ago the main goal was to get African countries to be able to be accepted as an organization that represents its rights owners.
