Johannesburg, South Africa – Composers Authors and Publishers Association NPC (CAPASSO) is proud to announce the launch of its groundbreaking Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative, a pivotal moment marking eleven years of dedicated service to its members and the broader music industry.

This new endeavour represents a significant milestone in CAPASSO’s journey, underscoring its unwavering commitment to fostering education, empowering, supporting and growing the creative industry and community. The initiative which is independent to CAPASSO’s daily operations is over seen by an independent CSI Committee which is made up of industry leaders who will ensure that the funding is allocated to the eligible and deserving recipients.

As CAPASSO celebrated 10 years of its existence in 2024, it is looking forward to a new venture as it switches gears in order to become part of the support that our members and community needs. The CSI initiative is coming to life through the commitment to its members who saw fit to plough back to the creators and the communities who play an integral part of creating works and consumers of the music through purchasing, streaming and engaging with the music on licensed and legal digital service providers. Proposals will need to be sent through and shared with the CSI Committee who will then appoint the recipients.

The CAPASSO CSI is a first of its kind which will not only aid its members when it comes to providing sponsorship, but this is a partnership to further broaden our commitment beyond collecting and distributing mechanical royalties. it is also designed to support a diverse range of projects that align with its core mission.

The projects which will be eligible to be part of the CAPASSO CSI Initiative are based on three key pillars and namely:

  • Education:Providing access to essential knowledge, skills, and resources for aspiring and established music professionals. This includes supporting workshops, training programs, and educational initiatives that equip individuals with the tools needed to navigate the complexities of the music industry.
  • Empowering:Creating opportunities for creatives to develop their talents, build sustainable careers, and gain greater control over their artistic and professional journeys. This may involve mentorship programs, access to funding for creative projects, and initiatives that champion fair compensation and intellectual property rights.
  • Fostering Growth:Contributing to the overall development and sustainability of the music industry by investing in infrastructure, innovation, and community-building efforts. This could include supporting industry events, research, and collaborative platforms that drive progress and cultivate a vibrant ecosystem for all stakeholders.

Speaking about the CAPASSO CSI Initiative, CAPASSO CEO Jotam Matariro said: “It is an exciting moment for CAPASSO to launch the CSI initiative. We are thrilled to support music creators and the broader community which breeds musicians through this initiative, fostering growth, recognition, and opportunities. We envision a vibrant ecosystem where talent thrives, and we look forward to seeing how this initiative will uplift South Africa’s rich musical landscape. Let’s make waves together.”

HOW DOES ONE BECOME PART OF THE CAPASSO CSI INITIATIVE?

ABOUT CAPASSO

When CAPASSO was formed ten years ago the main goal was to get African countries to be able to be accepted as an organization that represents its rights owners. An organization that has obtained a group of rights predominantly mechanical rights and be able to license and ensure that the world sets their eyes on the African excellence that we are able to do and we can confidently say that we have been able to achieve but through the strengthening of our relationship with the department we will be able to achieve more.
